Brian Talbot Interviews

Reproduced below is a message from the JK Latics Message Board.

Out of Context

There has been a great deal of 'interest' and 'opinion' expressed on this board as a result of Brian Talbot's post match comments after the Stockport game.

Some of this is a result of some of BT's comments being taken out of context. For example the "not my team" comment first comes in the last 20 odd seconds of a five and a half minute interview and is expressed in a specific context (after a result like that with some fans calling for his head, would he consider walking? Answer - "If it was my team.. but it's not my team." Followed by a brief comment on why he wouldn't claim them as 'his team'). It is not the first thing that BT says after the match.

The comment that it would have been "better for me personally if we had been relegated last season" came in a second interview with GMR. Can any one deny this to be true? Last year no one would have blamed him (or perhaps very few) if we had been relegated, if it happens this year he ('personally') will get a great deal of criticism.

Perhaps Brian's problem in this case stem from him being too honest and open with the press.

If you want to hear the full post match interview (5min20secs) and Monday's press conference (20mins 7secs) that 'explores' the topics further (in context) then listen in to Radio Cavell's 'Latics Live' broadcast as part of Latics World from 7pm this (Tuesday) evening. I will also arrange for a link to be available (after kick off this evening)from the Radio Cavell site www.radiocavell1350.org.uk to enable anyone to listen to the interviews anytime during the next week. I will also try and get a copy of the GMR interview and place that on the site as well.

Yours
